Vocabulary for Upper Intermediate/B2 English Level

Vocabulary for Upper Intermediate/B2 English level refers to the set of words and phrases that learners at this level are expected to know and use in the language. These learners have a solid foundation of vocabulary and grammar and are able to communicate effectively in most situations. At this level, learners are expected to have a good command of a wide range of vocabulary and grammar structures, and to be able to use them to express themselves in a clear and detailed way. B2 level learners are expected to have a very good command of the language, and this level is considered as the level of a proficient user of the language.

B2 / Upper Intermediate

A CEFR B2 level English language user is considered to be at Upper intermediate level. A B2 level English language user is expected to have the following abilities:

• Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
• Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
• Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
• Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning.
• Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
• Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
• Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
